Tax invoice FAQ

Is this tax invoice generator free?+

Yes. It's completely free with no sign-up and no limit on invoices. There's no watermark on your business details.

What's the difference between an invoice and a tax invoice?+

Only businesses registered for GST may issue a 'tax invoice', and it must show the GST. If you're not registered for GST you issue a plain 'invoice' with no GST. This tool switches the heading automatically based on the GST toggle, so you stay compliant.

What has to be on a tax invoice in Australia?+

For invoices under $1,000: the words 'Tax Invoice', your business name, your ABN, the date issued, a description of what was sold, and the GST amount (if any). For $1,000 or more, you also need the buyer's identity or ABN.

Do I need to be registered for GST?+

You must register once your turnover reaches $75,000 a year. Below that it's optional. If you're not registered, leave the GST toggle off and the tool produces a plain invoice with no GST.

Do I need an ABN on my invoice?+

Strongly recommended. Without an ABN, a business customer may be required to withhold 47% of the payment under the 'no ABN withholding' rule, so quoting your ABN gets you paid in full.

Is my information safe?+

Everything stays in your browser on your device. Your details, logo and bank info are never uploaded to a server.

Can I use it on my phone?+

Yes. It's built mobile-first, so you can invoice from site and download the PDF on the spot.
